"The community house of Myllykoski was designed by Wäinö Gustaf Palmqvist. The building was completed in 1938 and its architecture represents the classicism and the functionalism. It was built in Myllykoski as a leisure place for the workers of United Paper Mills Ltd which offered the whole factory community many free-time activities. The community house belongs to the industry environment of Myllykoski which is one of Finland's nationally significant built culture environments. The objective of the thesis was to create into the reception rooms of the community house a uniform interior decoration in which the starting point is original style of the building designed by Wäinö Gustaf Palmqvist. In the plan, the purpose was to pay attention to the repairs that have been made indoors the community house and to let the different periods be seen. The work focused on the 1930–1950s with modern influences. The objective was to design premises suitable for many different user groups because they can be rented out for different events. In the work the preservation orders set for the building had to be taken into consideration. To study the history of the community house’s interior decoration, old photographs were searched and examined. There was little written information about the repairs available but one of the most important sources was a building historical report, The external buildings outside of the fences of Myllykoski factory. Reference targets, such as the head office of the factory and Kerhola, were used in surveying the decor typical of architect Palmqvist. The preservation requirements set for the building were also taken into consideration in the plan." See the whole thesis from here! |
